This joint submission to the 71st session of the Committee against Torture was submitted by NANSEN, the European Network on Statelessness and the Institute on Statelessness and Inclusion. The submission focuses on the rights of stateless persons and human rights challenges pertaining to statelessness in Belgium, with particular attention to:
• Liberty and security of the person and arbitrary detention
• Deprivation of nationality on national security grounds
• Statelessness determination and the rights of stateless persons
The submissions calls on the Committee to raise these matters and address recommendations to Belgium to further prevent and reduce statelessness.
